Gladiator training – week 1. How did I do?
I’d give myself a solid 6 out of 10. I showed up to every workout, which was challenging given the hours in the day and the juggle of life. Where I fell down was definitely some of the elements within each workout. I have a very good understanding of my body and what I am capable – however I also started a little hard and with a bit too much excitement.
Here are the areas I’d alter for week 2.
Microdosing grip strength.
Hanging off stuff is surprisingly hard. I had set myself the task of doing it for 30 seconds at a time but barely managed 10. Lowering the bar for next week.
Swimming at any great speed
I am a fair-weather-head-out-slow-paced swimmer. A blocked ear on my honeymoon has given me the fear of putting my head under water.
Fast swimming is not, and never will be, my thing. I’ll add running or cycling for week 2.
Sprinting drills
I did a fairly good attempt at this round the back of St James Park. A small hill that looks surprisingly like the Travelator. My goal was 10 seconds each sprint but they were more like 5 seconds. This is a good one to do on a treadmill instead.
Otherwise week 1 down and 1 week closer.
